Celebrating Our 44th Anniversary

About Us

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the nation’s leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. Since our founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day – educational, social, economic, and political.

Mission

AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.

Vision

AAUW empowers all women and girls to reach their highest potential.

Branch History

Originally formed as the Sun City West Branch, the name was changed to the Northwest Valley Branch in 2002 to better reflect the membership area. The Northwest Valley Branch is one of seven branches within the state of Arizona. Arizona is part of the Rocky Mountain Region of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Thanks to the dedication of a small but determined group of women, our branch was formed. We were granted official recognition by the AAUW on April 1, 1980. We are celebrating our 44th anniversary this year.

Since our early origins, the membership, programs, and activities have flourished. Currently, we are the second-largest AAUW branch in Arizona.

Mission Statement

AAUW advances gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.

The Northwest Valley branch of AAUW (AAUW-NWV) promotes a diverse membership and has members from Sun City West, Sun City Grand, Surprise, Sun City, Peoria, Glendale, El Mirage, Buckeye, Wickenburg, and Cave Creek. Members include both year-round and seasonal residents. Several members maintain dual membership with their home state.
